Who gives a shit? You could make this ‘hilarious joke poster’ about 75% of TV shows/movies. Why is this show special? Who is it hurting? Chill out, weirdos.
Cosign. Jesus f Christ, it’s a half-hour show that a 25 year-old made. Why does it have to do everything ever in the world for and against women of every type in its first 25 minutes?
Why do people think they’re being clever by pointing out that it’s precocious, entitled and privileged when that is THE POINT OF THE SHOW? Why can’t female characters find themselves and have sex in New York and be unlikeable at the same time? Have you met early 20s people living in New York? I was one and that’s why I know they are terrible. And also fun and interesting from TV show distance.
Why does everyone need to approve of this show for me and police me for liking it without couching my optimism in a bunch of identity politics caveats? I don’t come down to where you watch TV and knock the [name of your favorite niche show here] out of your mouth before the first episode is even done playing.
Also, say what you want about people whose parents were famous and who probably had a lot of advantages. Walking around in your undies on HBO when you aren’t shaped like a Game of Thrones girl and having everyone in the world talk about it takes some guts. This is not to say she’s actually fat. I bet she weighs less than I do. But in people’s complaints about how she’s not more active and empowered and role-modelish, I get this subtle sense that they’re also annoyed that she thought she was allowed to do that in a way that doesn’t implicitly beg for them to think she’s cute or sexy.
And again, the main question, why is this important to anyone but me? It’s like if instead of all of everyone starting to watch and love Downton Abbey, the show I assumed I’d be watching alone just like every show ever on masterpiece classic, people started bagging on it 100 times a day without ever watching it.
Who needs to nail a quirky niche lady show to the wall? Is it just because people have said good things about her and she’s so young? Because otherwise maybe use your power to police WE or the bravo network, where some actual crimes are going on.
There are so many people who get meetings based on who they know. Getting a JOB, a regular JOB, and a SHOW? You need to have actual talent.
You may not like what Lena Dunham does, you may not like the show, but respect that the woman has WORKED and has TALENT.
I say that as a writer of a certain age who would love to have the success that Lena Dunham has had at such a young age. If she was a man, this poster would not exist.

I think Girls is a good show and I sincerely don’t give a fuck about all the rest. Crispin Glover is the best.
